can I donate books?
Yes! Our Friends accept gently used books, comics, DVDs, puzzles and software for their regular Books & More sales. Items may be dropped off at the library during working hours. Please not more than two boxes at one time!
how can I donate to the Rutland Free Library?
You can be a donor by using a personal check, or by credit card. Credit card donations can be made online, by phone or in person. If you choose to make a donation by check, please make it payable to

what will my money be used for?
Unless you are giving for a specific appeal, your donation will be used for books, databases, and programs for children, teens and adults.
A dollar donated the Rutland Free Library goes a long way. For example:
- $20 provides supplies for crafts at our pre-school story hours
- $50 pays for one subscription to one of the 200+ magazines available in the library
- $100 will permit the purchase of three books or five movies
- $200 brings special events for children during school vacations
- $500 stocks the paperback racks for our teen readers, who prefer that format
- $1000 makes exclusive online databases available through the website 24/7
- $2500 is the library’s cost for the Vt Humanities Council 1st Wednesday series
how can I learn more about the Rutland Free Library?
We encourage you to visit our website to learn about the library’s interesting history, the programs offered for all ages and the many services available. The website also includes the most recent annual report , information about the work of the Friends of the Library, and more.
can I donate stocks, property or securities?
The Rutland Free Library is happy to consider any gift you are willing to make to support the programs, materials and services provided to the community. Please contact the library director at 802-773-1860.
will I receive a tax receipt for my gift?
Online donations made with a credit card receive an immediate confirmation letter and electronic receipt. If you have phoned in a credit card donation or mailed a check, you will receive a tax receipt statement along with your donor acknowledgement letter by mail within 14 days.
what about corporate matching gifts?
Your employer may have a matching gifts program! Many corporations will match their employee’s non-profit contribution dollar for dollar. Make sure to find out if your employer does this: your $100 gift could become $200 very quickly!
are there other ways I can help?
Yes. Other opportunities exist through the work of the Friends of the Library and volunteering for regular tasks or special projects from time to time. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 802-773-1860 if this interests you. The Friends of the Library will welcome you as well. Applications for both avenues of services are available at the front desk.
