The library board and association strive to maintain a strong, working relationship with the Friends of the Library, an auxiliary organization, organized to "foster, encourage, sponsor and promote the perpetuation, improvement, and interest in the Rutland Free Library." The Friends welcome members at all times. Their meeting times are posted in the library.

The Friends sponsor frequent booksales throughout the year as a fundraising event. The booksale takes place at the library
