Rutland Island— pertaining to the Old Horse in West\nwas purchased by William Johnson father of Ambrose Brown\nsome time around the year 1792. Brown\nbuilt some time in the 1790's.\n\nFrom generations of my family here lived David and George\nBrown, and Charles Brown was in 1863,\n1865 and George Hiram.\n\nIf at the corner what is now Mt. Main and Carroll Street was\nA Rutland, there was a round earthen circle about 50 feet\nin diameter, lying at the fort when a governor. My\nbrothers lived to go up to the spring for water.\nThe original land was a big farming circle from Main Street\nalmost to Center Rutland and the house was at one almost\nthe only one west of Main Street to what was then Burlington.\nHall was a now Center Rutland.
