Lieut Luce (1)of Williamstown,\nMass, William Smith, 2d Lieut., of Hancock, 1\nMass.\nI drawed 38 Dollars and 57 cents pr yr.\nI have drawed up to Sept. 4, 1834.\"\nSigned by Joseph Bataman and properly witnessed\nAbout this time somsons got busy and directed efforts to have Joseph Batanan's pension restored to him.\nA lettor is on file to the Comnissioner of Pensions\nfrom William Slade who at tha time was a Varmont Congressman and later 1844-46\nSometime in the year 1841/ar\nThis was followed by a vory impressive document hoaded \"Commonwealth of Massachusotts, Secretary's Office,\nCommonwealth following is a copys\nit appears that the name of Joseph Bateman is borne upon a Pay Roll of Lt.\nManchester July 16, 1777, as a Corporal, Fourten days.\nBoston，Noramber\nGoul d's Company in Col. Benjamin Simond's Regt. that merchad from Hancock to\n\"Upon a Pay Roll of Lt. Benjamin Simonds' Rogt.\nSergeant from October 15 to 17, 1780 - 5 daya.\nThe above letter seems to be response of a letter from the widow dated September 22, 1847, and is as follows:\n\"The Secrotary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is hereby requested to furnish evidence fron the rolls in his office of the service of my husband Joseph\nBatsmen\nin the War of the\n30 Vo:37209\n\"He resided in the town of Hancock, State of Massachusetts in the Revolutionary\nHe served in said war six months at one time and was on but the particulars thereof or the names of his officers aro\nseveral other tours\nHe served in all about eleven or twelve months.\nnot remem\nHe served both as\nCorporal & Sergeant.\n\"I am now eighty-seven years old i my memory does not enable me to state my husband's services more fully.\nIn the Census of Orleans County,N.
